   How Thermal Imaging Works

All objects regardless of their temperature emit heat energy.  Of course, the hotter an object is the more energy it is emitting.  This energy is called infrared energy.  It is similar to visual light but at a longer wave length as you can see on the wave chart below. This longer wave length is invisible t
o our eyes but a thermal imaging camera can capture.  That's where the computer in the camera takes over and interprets this information by translating it into an image that we can see.

So How Does This Help Us?

Thermal Imaging can be applied to examine the surface temperatures of objects quickly in a real time environment which allows us to quickly identify temperature differences between objects.  Because this is a non-contact technology it allows us to see issues without climbing ladders or de-energizing equipment.  This technology actually works best with equipment live and running.
